Job Sites Heating Up?

Lots of interesting stuff happening with regards to job boards. I recently wrote about Job Coin which helps bloggers monetize their site by adding a job board. There are others too such JobThread but these aren’t the only sites we see focusing on the job market.
Linkedin provides its massive user base with jobs, while Doostang takes a more exclusive approach requiring an existing user’s recommendation before allowing you to become a member (and access their jobs).
WhoToTalkTo adds a layer of privacy through its unique approach. As Mashable! points out, referrals can only be exchanged individually between two users via direct, private conversations. Users have anonymity, but at the same time have the ability to vet and choose with whom they exchange referrals. However, the site requires you to post a job to get access.
So What? It’s an interesting model that still provides a layer of exclusivity. That being said, I’m not fond of the posting-a-job-to-get-access requirement. I think it limits users interest and puts a burden on the user that he or she might not be interested in jumping. It seems to assume that the user is casually looking. If I’m really looking for a new job am I really going to spend the time posting one? I don’t think so.
Bottom Line: The site’s trying to add a twist to something that’s great straight.

I actually think you have it backwards on something I took to be an innovation. They say they’re posting personal referrals to jobs right? As far as I know, there are no job ads, so all the content comes from the users, right? They wouldn’t want “casual lookers” because what would be my incentive to post a job if I could view all the other jobs for “free” ahead of time? The reverse of your statement: I think the only time I WOULD bother to post a job was when I was actively looking for a new one and I thought I could get something out of it. This is assuming of course I got good jobs out of doing it. If I posted a referrals and saw only crap referrals once I got inside, I wouldn’t come back. Who knows how they’d manage the quality of the posts, but maybe that sort of exclusivity would do it.
