Take That Zune

In another example of how Apple’s iPod continues to dominate the mobile media player market, Apple has struck deals with at least 6 airlines (Air France, Continental, Delta, Emirates, KLM and United) to offer iPod integration. According to a great post over on TechBuzz, travelers will soon be able to charge their iPods and watch video content from their iPod on the back seat display.

Just shows you another way that the iPod is viewed by not only its users but by industry. First carmakers were offering audio integration, now airlines offer this video integration. If anyone was wondering how big a lead Apple’s iPod has on Microsoft’s Zune, they only need to look as far as this deal.

So What? Airlines are notoriously slow movers and often weak at innovating. The move by these airlines (with undoubtedly more to follow) to offer iPod connectivity just goes to show the ubiquity of Apple’s platform and the lead the company has on Microsoft or anyone else foolish enough to enter the mobile-media-player-space.

Thanks for the trackback, I think even Microsoft should implement a similar strategy if they need to survive in the Portable Music Player Segment
