Mobile Blogging-Will it Take?

Michal Lev-Ram writes a thought provoking post about Veeker and the viability of moblogging. She notes that only 50% of phone subscribers who own camera phones are actually taking photos and only 3% with the capability are taking videos.
Admittedly, I’m still working on my voice and the basic functionality of my blog (still trying to find a blog client that allows me to upload images to my Wordpress backed blog easily!), much less mobile blogging. My colleague and friend Jeff Burkett uses Yomoblog and seems to be happy with the service to date. Perhaps, I’ll give this service a try or maybe I’ll check out Veeker.
Regardless the provider, Veeker, Yomoblog and many others are only a few of the many current and future services allowing bloggers to do so mobile-ly. However, the larger issue seems to be not the presence of these services but rather their ease of use. Name a technology and I’ll provide you with a list of features that were there long before users’ implementation of them. I’m still figuring out all the features on my DVR!
Nevertheless, as mobile functionality becomes more ubiquitous it’s likely that we will see more and more products and services centered around the mobile phone, the blackberry, and the Treo. In the past few weeks you saw the announcements of deals by YouTube and Revver with mobile carriers. I think that this trend will only continue in 2007 with anything and everything going mobile.
Whether moblogging becomes mainstream remains to be seen. In the mean time, it’s fun to learn about a few companies who are out there trying to meet the need, even for those of us who aren’t quite sure when we’ll need it.

Attempted to set up Yomoblog and so far - less than satisfactory - in fact cannot even get into the site.
