Yahoo! Finance - Innovative or Just More of the Same?

So Yahoo enhanced its financial section to include all kinds of consumer related information. Personally, I’m a junkie for this type of information. Like any news and information service, if you can find a tidbit here or there to improve your financial life, you’ll be better off.
Some pundits have questioned whether this is the appropriate direction for Yahoo (in its pursuit of Google). Me? I don’t necessarily think that it’s an easy comparison. Yahoo isn’t Google. Yahoo, while becoming more aggressive in the Web 2.0 space with acquisitions of Del.icio.us, mybloglog, flickr, is still for many a destination site. It’s a place to go for news, email, information.
So What? This re-launch of the finance section, which incorporates more consumer finance information beyond the usual stock and mutual fund information, provides users one more reason to come to or stay on Yahoo’s pages. It’s a great way to drive deeper visits and thus increased advertising revenue-something that certainly can’t hurt in its pursuit of Google.
