Yahoo! Launches “Go 2.0″

Received an email this morning from Yahoo offering me Yahoo! Go 2.0.

Yahoo 2 Go

Essentially, it’s essentially a counter to Google mobile. It allows you access search, email, your photos, news, weather all in a very slick UI.

To quote Yahoo:

    Yahoo Go 2.0 looks great, but you’re stuck in the Yahoo world forever. What happens if you really like Yahoo News, but you’re more of a Google Local person for finding phone numbers and directions?

    My company just launched the public beta of Tappity this week ( www.tappity.com ), which is a user driven site where you can submit, rate, and discover mobile-friendly web pages. You’re free to combine the best of the entire mobile web, not just one company’s services.

    In addition, you can save favorite items to a mobile homepage that’s personalized just for you.

    Hi zz,

    We’re not selling or displaying any advertisements at this time (that’s true for both the regular and mobile websites). We come from the same school of thought as CraigsList or Del.icio.us, where, if you provide a great service to people, good things will come down the road. That’s not to say that we have no plans for generating revenue, it’s just that they’re more of a secondary or tertiary concern at this time, and when they are implemented, they will be unobtrusive to the Tappity experience.

    Right now, our primary concern is to work out all of the beta bugs, and, most importantly, we’re listening to user feedback, and trying to make Tappity the best, most useful, site we can. We’re focusing our efforts on encouraging our users to discover, submit and rate mobile sites, so that they can be the ones to shape the future of Mobile Search.

    Additionally, we’re reaching out to the mobile developer community to see Tappity as a means to promote their newly created mobile website, both professional and amateur. That’s the beauty of Web 2.0, isn’t it, to allow anyone the chance to be heard?

    It’s exciting to see more coverage of the mobile platform world, and yet, as a Crackberry guy (I use the Pearl), I have discovered a profound passion for “simple” with regards to my mobile-top apps. I use Gmail’s client app on my mobile only for the contact search. Otherwise, I find myself less enamored with phone-based apps.
