AOL to Get with Mobile Ads?

According to the Wall St. Journal, AOL is in talks to acquire Third Screen Media.
Third Screen provides the technology that allows for companies to post small ads on cellphone screens. The company develops display advertising for brands like Ford Motor Co. and Bank of America on the mobile Web sites of such companies as The Weather Channel and Walt Disney Co.’s ESPN.
The deal is expected to be in the range of $80 million and would give AOL one of a handful of players in this burgeoning space.
So What? I think this is the first of many acquisitions in this space. Just like we’ve seen a run on companies that provide for in-game advertising for the video game industry, I suspect we’ll see more acquisitions from larger players in the mobile advertising arena.
