IPO Chatter a Tad Excessive?

Lots of talk these days about 2007 being the year of the tech IPO. Magazines and newspapers are hyping the idea that since we haven’t seen many tech IPOs recently and with the list of tech takeovers such as YouTube, MySpace and the on-again, off-again speculation about Facebook, we MUST be due for some big, juicy, tech IPOs.
I myself am not buying it. Sure they’ll be an IPO here or there but I think with the amount of cash floating around and the need for companies such as NBC, Viacom and Disney to stay digitally competitive with the likes of Google, Yahoo and even Fox Interactive, there will be continued acquisitions as opposed to big IPOs.
Pete Cashmore over at Mashable has a post about Bebo in which Bebo’s CEO, Michael Birch, denies interest in a YouTube like sale. Not sure I buy that one Mike.
Regardless, I could be very wrong and 2007 could turn out to be the year of the tech IPO…we’ll just have to wait and see.
