Latest Web M&A Rumors

The two hottest rumors on the web include, you guessed it, Yahoo and Google.

Yahoo Courts Bebo?
According to pieces in the London Telegraph and Mashable, Yahoo is looking to acquire the British-based social network, Bebo for approximately $1 billion.

Bebo

This could be a great fit for Yahoo, since it doesn’t have a large, established Social Networking play and although it attempted to purchase Facebook, a deal couldn’t be reached. With Facebook’s value rising by the day, it makes sense that Yahoo turned its site onto a more affordable, yet growing social networking site.

Google to buy Feedburner?
According to Vecosys, there’s word that Google is looking to buy the Feed management and ad platform that is Feedburner. Word on the street that this deal would close for $100 million and is simply held up by Google’s recent acquisition of DoubleClick.

Feeburner

If this were to be true, it would make complete sense to me. Google is all about organizing information and serving advertising against it. Feedburner allows them to do both and own the biggest, most dominant player in this continually growing space.

So What?
Whether or not both of these rumors are true will be revealed in the days and weeks ahead. However, its worth noting that both are taking largely different strategies. Yahoo remains a product central focused company, whereas Google continues to focus on applications and advertising.

Which one’s best? For now, we certainly know which one has been more profitable. However, in the long run it’s anyone’s guess as to how such very different strategies will play out.
